He reported for the Stars & Stripes magazine in London during World War 2 and got listed as missing in action. But he was later found and rescued. He married Janet in the TV movie "A Walton Wedding." John-Boy was first played by Richard Thomas and then later by Robert Wrightman. The character of John-Boy was based on real-life author Earl Hamner.
